The ChaRosa Foundation Corporation (CFC) is a community-based, not-for-profit organization established on March 17, 1984 for the purpose of “Helping People…Them Themselves!” For the past twenty years, CFC has developed and implemented successful educational, employment, cultural, and youth programs. These programs are aimed at improving self-esteem, self-image and self-worth. We strive to improve educational scores, encourage higher education, teach employment skills, foster interest in culture and arts, instill leadership qualities, and prepare youth for their future.
CFC operates an After-School Program during the school year at P.S.36 in St. Albans, for more than 200 children ages five to twelve, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The students received homework assistance; tutoring and they participate in cultural and recreational activities. During the summer, CFC operates a traveling Summer Day Camp for 50 children ages six to twelve from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The children travel to various educational and recreational spots throughout New York City. Students participating in these programs have improved in their academic performance and peer relationships.
CFC operates WIA In-School Program geared for high school students. The program offers academic enrichment, remedial math, reading and work readiness training for teens ages 14-18. The In-School Program provides them with the necessary tools to acquire future employment.
CFC operates a Youth Employment Program during the summer for more than 1100 youths ages 14-21. CFC provides academic enhancement services, employment services, and support services to these participants. The program provides youth with a summer job and job readiness training. Referrals are for participants in need of support services. The program enables youth to gain valuable employment experiences and to support their journey toward a successful future.
CFC offers a diverse range of Culture and Arts programs. These include lessons in Piano, Voice, Drum, Guitar, Horns as well as Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Modern, African, Step and Hip-Hop classes. Drama, Video Production, and Modeling are also offered, based on community interest. These lessons are available at a minimal cost to the student and are open to all people ages five and up. CFC supports local music artists by promoting free concerts on Wednesday in front of the office at 228-08 Linden Blvd. These concerts are held from June through September. CFC has a Domestic Violence/Crime Victim Service. CFC offer free counseling to victims of domestic violence as well as all crime victims, including children who have witnessed family violence, a crime, or who have been victims themselves. Our agency will assist our clients in filing for financial compensation from the New York State Crime Victims Board. Victims and their dependent and extended family members may be eligible to receive financial compensation for loss of property, personal injury, burial costs, medical bills, and other costs not covered by insurance or benefit programs.
CFC has a Substance Abuse Education Program. We provide individual and family counseling, educational workshops, and substance abuse prevention courses. Advocacy is available to assist individuals and families involved in or at risk of becoming involved in, substance abuse situations.
CFC also has a Domestic Violence Prevention & Intervention Program. Free family counseling, Conflict Resolution Training and Advocacy are available to assist individuals and families involved in, or at risk of becoming involved in, domestic violence situations. Services include crisis and long term counseling to help victims or affected family members, assistance in conflict resolution, an advocacy service to intervene on behalf of clients to obtain benefits, as well as referrals to shelters, medical and other support services available in the community.
